The DuckTales reboot has a new theme song and premiere date

Dust off your shirt and no pants

Susana Polo is an entertainment editor at Polygon, specializing in pop culture and genre fare, with a primary expertise in comic books. Previously, she founded The Mary Sue.

Entertainment Weekly unveiled the new opening sequence for the DuckTales reboot today, and it is a minute and 12 seconds of joy.

Now don’t worry, the new theme is the same as the old theme — and that opening sequence is a wonderful tribute to the cartoon’s roots in Disney comic strips. The rest of the show is looking pretty good too, at least from what we’ve seen so far.

The new show features the voice talents of Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Bobby Moynihan, Kate Micucci, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Paul F. Tompkins, Jim Rash, Keith Ferguson, Allison Janney and David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck himself — many of whom got together last year to record their own version of the show’s infamously catchy theme.

DuckTales will premiere in an unconventional way. First, a one-hour TV movie — title: Woo-oo!, of course — will air on Saturday, Aug. 12 at midnight on Disney XD. It will air again an hour later, and an hour later and an hour later, until Woo-oo! will have covered an entire 24 hours of programming on the channel. The show’s first two regular-length episodes will air on Sep. 23, released simultaneously on Disney XD, video on demand, and through the network’s app.
