Daisy Ridley, Lupita Nyong’o and Felicity Jones return as their characters

Star Wars Forces of Destiny

Star Wars Forces of Destiny, the animated web series which showcases the female heroes of the Star Wars universe, will premiere July 3 on Disney’s YouTube channel.

The series was announced at Star Wars Celebration Orlando in April. Each episode will be 2-3 minutes in length and “explore the untold stories that helped shape the destinies” of various heroines. Star Wars Rebels producer Dave Filoni has described the series as “Bite-sized, short self-contained adventures that take place in different time periods.”

Each short will be narrated by The Force Awakens’ lovable and powerful orange grandma Maz Kanata, with Lupita Nyong’o reprising her role. Other actresses confirmed for the show include Daisy Ridley as Rey, Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano and Tiya Sircar as Sabine Wren. Close viewers of the trailer can also spot Princess Leia going toe-to-toe with a wampa and Padmé Amidala whacking the shapeshifter Zam Wesell across the head with a blunt object.

Starting July 3, a new episode will go up on YouTube every day at 10 a.m. PT. Forces of Destiny will then debut on Disney Channel July 9.
