The Gifted trailer brings in the X-Men, but can they save the day?

Everybody is on the run

The Gifted, the upcoming Fox series set in the X-Men universe, focuses on a couple and their two mutant children on the run from the law. They won’t be alone, though: They’ll have a few X-Men on their side.

The trailer, which Fox debuted during a San Diego Comic-Con panel for The Gifted, expands the scope of the show over its debut trailer from May.

Lauren Strucker (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White) are two high school students who discover that they have super powers. That’s a problem in a world that’s cracking down on mutants — an effort that’s helped by the kids’ father, Reed (True Blood’s Stephen Moyer), of all people. Thankfully, he decides to quit throwing mutants in jail, and instead joins his wife Kate (Amy Acker, Person of Interest) and their children as they all try to stay alive.

In the Comic-Con trailer, Reed calls up one of the X-Men, Eclipse, and asks him to help his family go underground. Eclipse and his three mutant cohorts — Thunderbird, Polaris and Blink — eventually agree, which is a good thing, because it seems like they’ll all need to stick together if they want to survive.

The Gifted, which is led by showrunner Matt Nix (Burn Notice) and executive producer Bryan Singer (X2: X-Men United), premieres Oct. 2 on Fox.
