The Defenders’ latest tease builds up Daredevil’s return

And coming to terms with Elektra

Netflix today dropped an excerpt from episode one of The Defenders, which premieres next month. In the clip, Matt Murdock is reonciling his feelings for Elektra, and his lingering urge to return to his role as Daredevil.

Daredevil is the establishment star of The Defenders, which will join him with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, all of whom have had a dedicated series on Netflix. The Defenders will synthesize their personal struggles while also creating support relationships among the team members.

The first episode picks up where Iron Fist, the most recently wrapped series of the four characters on the team, left off. The heroes will not come together in the first episode. (We saw and reviewed it yesterday; caution, light spoilers.) For context, the confessional scene will come after an encounter where Matt Murdock lies to a friend about not wanting to be Daredevil anymore. Spoiler alert: he does.

The Defenders, like the other Marvel series on Netflix, will be available in its entirety beginning Aug. 18.
