Hot on the heels of season 2’s debut, Netflix has announced that its Castlevania animated series will return for a third season.
The series, which is written by Warren Ellis, is loosely based on the Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse. It follows Trevor Belmont as he attempts to defend the village of Wallachia from Dracula’s accursed army. Castlevania has been fairly well received during its run, with reception of the second season notably more positive than the first, including particular praise for Ellis’s writing. Ellis will return to the series for its third season and continue as both a writer and executive producer.
Adi Shankar, another of the show’s executive producers, took to Twitter shortly after the announcement of the show’s renewal to express his excitement and thanks to Netflix and the show’s creative team in a series of tweets.
“We have artists from all over the world who love working on this show. Who work around the clock to fuse their passion into each and every frame,” Shankar tweeted. In the same thread, Shankar also doubled down on the show’s goal for next season, including setting his sites on an Emmy.
This announcement comes at a volatile time for Netflix as the company recently announced the cancellation of some of its high profile shows. Marvel series like Iron Fist and Luke Cage were both shut down after their second seasons, while critical favorite American Vandal was also not renewed for a third season.
