After eight years on the air, the series that forever altered the face of Cartoon Network — and television animation — is coming to an end. Adventure Time’s four-part finale is “coming soon.”
In late 2016, Cartoon Network announced that Adventure Time’s 10th season would be its last. The four final episodes are collectively called “Come Along With Me,” a lyrical line from the show’s end credits theme, eerily reproduced as only vocals with no backing track at the end of the above trailer.
The trailer is vague on the finale’s air date, which is nothing new for Cartoon Network. The channel largely eschews the release of regular seasons of its shows in favor of irregularly scheduled “programming bombs,” both whipping fans into a frenzy of anticipation when a show’s return from indeterminate hiatus and, at other times, confounding them.
Whenever it happens, the finale will be a historic event for Cartoon Network. Adventure Time, and the folks who work on it, have made an indelible impact on the animation network’s fortunes and show lineup. Its storyboard artists and other crew have gone on to create other wildly successful Cartoon Network series, including Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall, Clarence and OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes.
