In June, creator Ryan Murphy announced that Season 8 of American Horror Story would be the long-awaited crossover between season one’s Murder House and season three’s Coven. Season eight now has an official name: American Horror Story: Apocalypse.

Murder House left off with the birth of Vivien Harmon (Connie Britton) and Tate Langdon’s (Evan Peters) child — aka the Antichrist. While the series ended with the child being raised by his grandmother, Jessica Lange’s Constance Langdon, we haven’t seen much of Michael since.
Since the announcement that all the seasons of the anthology series were connected (and with direct evidence starting in season four, with the appearance of Pepper, a character who debuted in season two), characters and locations of previous seasons have appeared or been referenced, yet the ominous threat of Michael Langdon has not yet made an appearance.
It’s widely spectacled that the”apocalypse” of the theme title will be heralded in by Michael, which was foretold by Sarah Paulson’s Billie Dean Howard in season one.
“A child born of human and spirit will usher in the end of times,” said Howard in episode nine of the first season.
At an Emmy FYC panel, Murphy said that unlike last season’s Cult, this season will be “heightened.”
“It’s not necessarily as real and grounded as the past season. We’re sort of getting back to Asylum and Coven. It’s that tone. That’s the tone of it,” said Murphy.
Coven and Murder House are two fan-favorite seasons, so a crossover between the witches of Coven and an eerie ghost child seems natural. There’s still plenty to speculate. So far, while Murphy’s stated that he invited all the actors who played witches back for this season, it’s unconfirmed which will return. A cast photo tweeted by AHS newcomer Joan Collins covers up someone with a large ghost sticker, which many speculate to be fan favorite, Jessica Lange.
