Star Trek: Discovery is returning for a second season next year, and fans got a special first look at what the Discovery crew has in store.
The trailer premiered at San Diego Comic-Con, where the Star Trek: Discovery cast gathered for a panel teasing the second season. The trailer returned Sonequa Martin-Green’s Michael Burnham to action, and introduced a new alien character named Linus. We also got a first look at some snazzy new Starfleet crew uniforms that fans of the original series will admire. Although producer Alex Kurtzman said Spock will appear in the show’s second season, we didn’t get a look at him in this first teaser. The trailer premiered before the announcement of a new anthology series that will tie into Discovery.
Star Trek: Discovery premiered last year as one of the first major original series on CBS’ streaming service, CBS All Access. Critics and fans hailed the show for its commitment to the series’ original tone, and also applauded the writers’ decision to boldly go where no Star Trek series has gone before.
There’s no premiere date for the second season just yet, but Kurtzman told The Hollywood Reporter that the team is taking its time, ensuring there are no major delays.
