Even though a teaser for the next season of Stranger Things dropped a couple of weeks ago, it looks like the Netflix sci-fi favorite won’t be returning this year.
Netflix programming executive Cindy Holland spoke at the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Sunday and revealed that Stranger Things would not be returning to Netflix until summer 2019, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Holland explained that the reason for this delay is because Stranger Things producers the Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy are still fine-tuning. This upcoming season will also have more special effects work than previous seasons, which requires a bit more time.
Fans had mixed feelings about the second season of Stranger Things, but Holland promised that the third season would deliver.
“They [the Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy] understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than last year,” said Holland. “I think it’s going to be a fantastic season. It will be worth the wait.”
The previously released teaser showed off a new location — Starcourt Mall — with plenty of ’80s nostalgic shoutouts and a small cameo from everyone’s favorite young dad, Steve, in a nautical-themed Scoops Ahoy! uniform.
