New Young Justice: Outsiders clip focuses on metahuman trafficking

The series will air on DC Universe in early 2019

New footage from the long-awaited third season of Young Justice was released today, and sets the stakes for upcoming season.

The fan-favorite series aired in Cartoon Network’s DC Nation block from 2010 to 2013, but was not picked up for a third season, much to the dismay of viewers. There were various fan campaigns to bring back the show and finally, in 2016, Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register officially confirmed a third season would be happening. Showrunners Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman showed a new trailer at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

In this new clip, Dick Grayson’s Nightwing breaks into a metahuman trafficking facility. Weisman and Vietti confirmed that metahuman trafficking would be a pivotal plot point in the upcoming season. Nightwing speaks to Oracle, which implies that Barbara Gordon has passed on the mantle of Batgirl, though it’s not clear how or why, or who takes it up instead. (Stephanie Brown is confirmed to make an appearance, but as Spoiler).

The clip ends with evidence leading the team to Markovia, home of new team member Geo-Force and his missing sister, Tara. And — importantly for longtime fans! — Nightwing’s full face is shown for the first time. Gasp!

The first episode of Young Justice: Outsiders will air in early 2019, exclusively on DC’s new streaming platform, DC Universe.
