There’s a new trailer for Star Trek: Picard, and it delivers our first look an old friend, as was promised when the last trailer was shown at San Diego Comic-Con. We also get a premiere date; Jan. 23, 2020, on CBS All Access.
Forgive a Star Trek casual like me, that vineyard shot had me thinking we were somehow back in the Nexus from Star Trek Generations my senior year of college. Alas, this is only tangentially related to that arc — Picard returns to the family vineyard after the death of his brother and nephew, an event referenced in Generations during a touching scene with Picard and Counselor Deanna Troi. Anyway, fond memories of an underrated flick, and Patrick Stewart gave a baller monologue convincing Kirk to come back to reality, literally.
As for Troi, Marina Sirtis will return to reprise the role she made famous over all seven seasons of The Next Generation. She isn’t the only one. By now you probably know who’s showing up at the end of this, but I’ll leave that unsaid, because it’s a sweet reunion you should enjoy.
