After a series of teasers, the full trailer for FX’s What We Do in the Shadows has finally arrived, and I’ve never felt more alive (more undead?).
The 2014 horror-comedy of the same name, upon which the show is based, followed a group of vampires sharing a house in New Zealand, and the new series takes much the same tack. It posits itself as a documentary following a group of four cohabitating vampires in Staten Island: Nandor “the Relentless” (Kavyan Novak), a former warrior from the Ottoman Empire; Laszlo (Matt Berry), a British dandy; Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), “the vampiric Bonnie to Laszlo’s Clyde;” and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), a new kind of vampire known as an “energy vampire,” who, as seen in the trailer, bores or enrages people for sustenance rather than drinking their blood.
Also along for the ride are Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), Nandor’s familiar, and Jenna (Beanie Feldstein), an enthusiastic LARPer who befriends Nadja. And, fear not, the werewolves (not swear-wolves) put in an appearance as well.
The series, which was created by Jemaine Clement (who directed the film with Taika Waititi), is set to run for 10 episodes in its first season, and premieres on March 27.
