Star Trek: Picard teaser brings back Patrick Stewart

“The end is only the beginning.”

The first teaser for CBS’s Star Trek: Picard shows us just where Jean-Luc has been for the past 18 years — returning to his family’s vineyard and making wine. The vineyard appeared in a few episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, particularly the series finale where Picard saw himself retire to the vineyard via a spatial anomaly.

After his brother and nephew’s death, it looks like Picard returned to take over the family business. But this new series isn’t going to be about the winemaking industry — so what prompts Picard to leave once more?

The series picks up after the events of Jean-Luc Picard’s last appearance in Star Trek: Nemesis. The voice-over mentions that Picard led a great rescue 15 years prior before the “unimaginable” happened.

“What did that cost you?” says the mysterious disembodied voice (who seems to have a connection with Picard). “Your faith? Your faith in us?”

Patrick Stewart returns to the role of Captain Picard, with Santiago Cabrera (Merlin) as a pilot and Michelle Hurd (Law and Order: SVU) as an intelligence officer. Alison Pill (American Horror Story) and Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful) join in unspecified roles.

Star Trek: Picard will premiere in late 2019 on CBS All Access and run for 10 episodes.
