The American Horror Story: 1984 teaser is basically Friday the 13th

Especially the bit about murder

The newest trailer for American Horror Story: 1984 digs deep into the breezy atmosphere of the 1980s as well as the promised slasher action hinted at in earlier teasers. Furthermore, we now have a subtitle for season 9: Camp Redwood.

The newest teaser is set to the summery soundtrack of John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band’s “On The Dark Side” and The Motels’ “Suddenly Last Summer,” and features a bunch of young adults frolicking in their truck and at a local lake. All is well and good until a Jason Voorhees-like man leaps out from under the water, presumably stabbing a girl lazing about in a canoe. While previous seasons have delved into the supernatural, season 9 leans more into realistic horror in the spirit of the slasher films of the ’80s. We still don’t know much about the plot other than the fact that it takes place at a summer camp, but the description of the trailer cryptically warns, “Welcome to Camp Redwood. Good luck leaving alive.”

The new season sees the return of American Horror Story veterans Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Cody Fern, Leslie Grossman, and John Carroll Lynch. Newcomers include Matthew Morrison (Glee), Angelica Ross (Pose), Gus Kenworthy (yes, the Olympic skier), DeRon Horton (Dear White People), and Zach Villa (Shameless). Notably absent are Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson, who have appeared in all eight previous seasons of American Horror Story in some capacity.

American Horror Story: 1984 premieres on Sept. 18 on FX.
