A new year means a new American Horror Story season.
Every installment of Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology gets a new theme, though the actors involved usually remain the same. And if they’re not AHS mainstays, then they’re mostly picks from some of Murphy’s other projects. The theme of the season hasn’t been announced yet, but Murphy did reveal the cast in a video on Instagram.
Amidst the regular names like Lily Rabe and Kathy Bates is one lone newcomer: Home Alone’s Macaulay Culkin. Every other actor in Murphy’s Instagram post has appeared in at least one previous season of AHS. Notably, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters — huge AHS mainstays who appeared in seasons 1 through 8, but were absent from the 1980s slasher-themed season 9 — will return for whatever mystery theme awaits season 10.
The full announced cast is as follows:
- Kathy Bates
- Macaulay Culkin
- Leslie Grossman
- Billie Lourd
- Sarah Paulson
- Evan Peters
- Adina Porter
- Lily Rabe
- Angelica Ross
- Finn Wittrock
As for the theme, there’s still no word, but the gray ocean waves could point to something nautical. AHS: Lighthouse anyone? AHS: Cruise? AHS: Sleepy small beach town experiences gruesome murders because of a deep dark secret? The video is set to “Dead of the Night” by Orville Peck. Dead of Night, incidentally, is also the name of a British horror anthology film.
Teasing out the AHS theme is a tradition — sometimes it starts out with teasers to set the tone, sometimes it’s announced with just an image, and sometimes it’s a guessing game with multiple themes. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more clues. There is no set release date for AHS season 10.
