If you thought all three seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender landing on Netflix was the best news of the summer, then you’re in luck, because more of the Avatar world is landing on the platform in August. All four seasons of The Legend of Korra will drop on the streaming platform on Aug. 14 in the United States.
The Legend of Korra is the sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender, following a new avatar in the cycle, hot-headed waterbender Korra. Unlike Aang, she’s more of a fight-first-ask-questions-later hero. Korra takes place decades after the original show, and though some characters return as older figures, it focuses on an entirely different cast of characters (and some new adorable animals). The Legend of Korra was especially notable for portraying one of the first same-sex couples in mainstream all-ages animation in the last moments of its last episode.
Since Avatar: The Last Airbender dropped on Netflix, waves of fans returned to the series and new ones discovered it. TikTokers have launched musical recreations and the show continues to trend number one on Tumblr’s fandom tracker, ushering in an Avatar Renaissance. Adding The Legend of Korra to the roster should only fuel that fire (nation, eyo).
