Dexter Morgan has returned. The self-righteous serial killer at the center of Showtime’s series Dexter, is coming back for a new limited series, and on Thursday it got its first teaser trailer.
[Ed. note: This story contains spoilers for original finale of Dexter.]
There isn’t much to this teaser, titled Misunderstood, but the trailer seems to pick up right where the original series left off. In the original finale, after eight seasons of serial-killing everyone in Miami who deserved it — at least according to his own code of honor — Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) faked his own death and retired to Oregon to grow a beard and become a lumberjack.
The teaser opens on a small campfire burning in the woods, and pans back to reveal Dexter looking out the window of a log cabin, before turning to look directly at the camera. It’s a near mirror to the shot from Dexter’s original finale. Now that his beard is shaved once again, it seems like Dexter’s ready to get back to his old ways.
The original series’ ending proved controversial at best, and was despised at its worst. So, it makes sense that the new series’ first move would be to pull Dexter out of the forests of Oregon. The new limited series will once again star Hall (Gamer) as the titular serial killer, and will also bring back Clyde Phillips, the showrunner for Dexter’s first four seasons.
The Dexter limited series will include 10 episodes on Showtime and is scheduled to start this fall.
