Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End ‘At Sea’ treasures and collectibles locations guide

In this Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End guide, we’ll help you find the 13 treasures, six journal entries, two journal notes and two optional conversations in Chapter 12 “At Sea.”

We’ve organized our guides by chapters. To find the chapter name, head to the main menu. When you choose to continue your Story game, you’ll see the chapter number and name. (Unlike the previous games, the chapter name is not part of your save file.) In the same menu, you can make sure you haven’t missed any collectibles in the Chapter Select option.

Chapter 12 brings Nate and Sam to a rocky archipelago as they search for Libertalia.

There’s no map in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, so for each of the collectibles below, we used photo mode to zoom out and give you some context surrounding the treasure locations. Use the images to make sure you’re in the right area and the added arrows to help you find your way.

Journal entry 1 (of 6) collectible location

As you weave through the rocks and sandbars at the beginning of the chapter, aim between the two biggest islands. Look for the tall, mountainous island with a small beach on the left. On that beach, head to the left side to find a cross marking a grave. Interact with it to get this journal entry.

From that grave marker, head to the back of the cove where you’ll find a small cave. Inside, grab this journal note from the crates on your left.

Head back to your boat. Facing away from the cave/cove, follow the island’s coast around to the right. You’ll see a low, sandy island with a shipwreck on it. Head there. On the beach, look for the small palm tree on your right. You’ll pick up this journal note from the satchel at its base.

From that palm tree, follow the beach to the left and go all the way around the lagoon (or you can go back to the boat and sail around). As you approach the ship’s mast, you’ll get the prompt for this journal entry.

When you’re done writing, hop into the water and dive under. You’re looking for a room one deck below the top of the ship. You can get in through the side or through a hole near the mast. The Brass Pocket Sundial is buried in some coral there.

Return to your boat and look back at the first, tallest island. Just to the left of the tallest peak, you’ll see another beach. Land there, and then follow the right wall of the cove to the back. You’ll find the Combination Lock Tobacco Box in some smashed crates and barrels.

Facing out of that cove back toward the shipwreck, drive your boat around to the right. You’ll see a couple of natural stone arches. Head through the one on the right.

On the other side of the arch, park your boat close to the ledge on your right. Use the roof to hop over, and then climb the handholds on your right. You’ll find the Persian Leather Notebook Case on a ledge at the top.

Keep following the large island’s shore clockwise (to the right) until you come back to main channel between the two islands. You were facing this channel when the chapter started. Land on the island on your left — the one with the pirate-made tower. Climb up to the tower and watch the cutscene (the collectibles are on the other side of the island, so it makes sense to do the story stuff first).

From the tower, head to the beach opposite from where you parked. You can slide down the muddy rock for a quicker trip. At the bottom of the slide, look for a skeleton tied to a post to get this journal entry.

From that skeleton, turn to the right. There’s a large boulder nearby resting against a pair of tall palm trees. The Silver and Wood Tankard is under that boulder.

From the skeleton (journal entry 1) and the Silver Wood Tankard, head to the beach to find an arrow marker. From the marker, turn right and follow the beach to a small cave. The Persian Silver Pen Box is inside on the right.

Head back to the beach and your boat. Facing the beach, turn left. Follow this island’s shore around to the right.

Watch along the shore for a parking spot-sized beach with a few small palm trees. The Panamanian Pendant is up the beach behind the trees and some rocks.

To continue the story, you’ll follow those chevron (arrow) markers around to the far side of the big island (near the stone arches where you picked up the Persian Leather Notebook Case), and find a cave. Inside, you’ll do some climbing and swinging.

When you enter the courtyard with Avery’s subtle entrance, walk forward until you hit the puddle in the middle. Follow it to the right to find a tunnel that leads up toward the doors. The Deccani Bronze Spouted Bowl is in that tunnel on your right.

A whole lot of detouring and climbing later, you’ll come to a rope bridge (that immediately breaks). Climb up the half of the bridge you can reach, and turn around toward where Sam disappeared. Head to the right, and jump across to the roof you can reach. Look along the right edge to find a tunnel to step into. The Mughal Elephant Carving is inside.

Optional conversation 1 (of 2) location

When you finish climbing over to Sam and reunite, ignore the path forward clues and follow Sam out onto the rocky point (promotory?). You’ll be able to trigger this optional conversation at the edge. (Step up to the very edge to get Sam to follow you if you’re having trouble getting the prompt.)

Even more climbing and swinging later, you’ll climb up to another pirate watchtower. Circle around the base to find the door. The Ottoman Helmet is inside on the left.

[Treasure] Deccani Bronze Vase location

From there, you’ll climb up to the top of the tower, and swing over to a slide-able hill. Before you slide down, turn left. Use the ledge to climb over to the clearing on the other side of the big rock to find the Deccani Bronze Vase.

From the Deccani Bronze Vase, slide down the first stretch of mud. At the bottom of the slide, head left through the narrow pass. At the end of the pass, climb the wall on your left. At the top, you’ll have to run and jump into open air. Watch for the grapple point prompt on the tree high above you (this might take a couple tries). Swing to the far side, and pick up the Strange Relic from the stone fountain(?).

Head back to the bottom of the slide. Turn to the right this time, and climb over the low wall there. Drop down the ledges to the lowest clearing. Look at the door and grapple point to pick up this journal entry.

From journal entry 4, jump out and use the grapple point on the spear to swing across the cistern. Turn and look under the second slide’s ledge to see another spear-wielding statue. When you grapple to this second spear, climb up a little, and swing over to the base of the statue to pick up the Hamsa Mythical Goose.

Rappel down to the bottom of the cistern, and then face the second spear statue (the one you just rappelled from). Head through the small door just to the right of the statue. Inside, you’ll find a couple blueprints (“brownprints”) for Pirate Land. Approach the diarama on the table in the middle of the room for this journal entry. (While you’re here, interact with everything you can in the room. You need to do this to trigger the optional conversation below.)

Optional conversation 2 (of 2) location

Like we just mentioned, before you leave the diorama room, interact with everything you can — the three reliefs on the walls, the two brownprints, the diorama, and the model statue. You need to interact with all of it before you can trigger this conversation.

From the diorama room, head into the room to the left of the second spear statue — you can either go back to the cistern or swim over along the back wall of the room(s). Interact with the supplies and provisions on the table. After that, you’ll be able to trigger this conversation with Sam.

Still in the supplies room, look across the water at the back of the room. The Pique Tortoise Shell Box is in a clearing near the edge of the water. Head to the left, and then follow the stone column around to the right. Swim a little, and you’ll climb out right on top of the treasure.

From the bottom of the cistern, you’ll continue on to solve a puzzle (by lining up shadows with rotating symbols), and then return to your boat. Back on the smaller island (with the first pirate lookout tower where you got journal entry 3, the Silver and Wood Tankard, and the Persian Silver Pen Box earlier), you’ll find the giant statue of Avery. As you approach the statue before you climb it, look up at it to get the final journal entry.
