Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End ‘For Better or Worse’ treasures and collectibles locations guide

In this Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End guide, we’ll help you find the six treasures, two journal entries, two journal notes, and six optional conversations in Chapter 17 “For Better or Worse.”

We’ve organized our guides by chapters. To find the chapter name, head to the main menu. When you choose to continue your Story game, you’ll see the chapter number and name. (Unlike the previous games, the chapter name is not part of your save file.) In the same menu, you can make sure you haven’t missed any collectibles in the Chapter Select option.

Chapter 17 follows Nate and Elena across Libertalia toward New Devon.

There’s no map in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, so for each of the collectibles below, we used photo mode to zoom out and give you some context surrounding the treasure locations. Use the images to make sure you’re in the right area and the added arrows to help you find your way.

Optional conversation 1 (of 6) location

Very early in this chapter, after crossing the river, you’ll boost Elena up a ladder. At the top, she’ll run ahead to an intersection and pause. Approach her for a conversation.

When you’re done talking, turn left. The Mughal Flared Vase is near the cliff edge.

Optional conversation 2 (of 6) location

After you first conversation, Elena will run off up the hill. Follow her up and through another stream. Not too far along, she’ll stop again for another conversation.

Optional conversations 3 and 4 (of 6) location

After a bit of climbing and a couple Shoreline goons, you and Elena will be at the top of Avery’s elevator. Follow Elena and trigger this conversation. After Nate stumbles his way through it, you’ll get another prompt for one more conversation.

From conversations 3 and 4, continue past Elena, and turn left. You’ll be standing over the broken bridge and slide from a few minutes ago. Climb down the broken stairs to find the Mughal Hinged Box.

Journal entry 1 (of 2) location

A lot of shooting later, you’ll steal (back) a jeep. From there, you’ll drive upstream for a bit until you reach another of Avery’s elevators. When you park (near the elevator that will definitely work when you try it), head over to the left. Look up at the waterwheel to add this journal entry.

After you make that journal entry, you’ll head farther to the left, and use the jeep’s winch to knock down a balcony. When you climb up, head out onto the (smaller) balcony on your left for the Jade Serving Bowl.

After another bullet-filled encounter with Shoreline later, Nate will meet Elena at the top of the second elevator. Before you get in the car, run past it to the cliff edge. Follow it around to the right to find the Ancient Stone Bowl.

Journal note 1 (of 2) collectible location

From there, you’ll continue driving upriver to a third elevator. Just before the clearing with the elevator, watch for a small ladder on your right. Climb that ladder, and you’ll find the elevator keeper person’s house. This note is inside on a barrel on your right.

From the barrel with journal note 1, turn left and climb through the window. The Pewter Incense Burnder will be at your feet.

Back up by the (third) elevator, head over to the waterwheel on the right. Climb up between the wheel and the building, and then up the back of the building, to reach the second floor. The 18th Century Combination Lock is on the wheel’s axle.

Optional conversations 5 and 6 (of 6) location

Once you get the jeep onto the elevator, you’ll be able to trigger both of these conversations as you ride up.

Journal entry 2 (of 2) location

After a nice and peaceful drive up the hill, a death-defying drive across a bridge, and a much needed heart-to-heart with Elena, you’ll follow her a little upstream. Keep to the right, and head to the ledge where Nate didn’t climb out of the jeep. Look upstream to the collapsed bridge to pick up this journal entry.

Journal note 2 (of 2) collectible location

When you’re done with that journal entry, climb up the ledge on your left. Head a little farther left, and use the handholds and horizontal crack to make your way to the right. Climb onto the ledge there, and then jump across to the stones on the other side of this stream.
