Yeah that seems like an overall reasonable way to develop a FTP TM game. If it were to copy MWO’s level of customization that would certainly add plenty of depth, though I would hope to avoid those limited-time packs of exclusive mechs. That was some predatory FOMO shit right there.
I wonder if this developer would even bother with that level of customization. I can’t help but shit on Destruction Allstars; it just feels so basic, so incomplete.

But will his armor actually fit him this time?

I’m a huge Twisted Metal fan (meaning 1, 2, and Black only), and I’ve been wanting a new game for years now. I’ve often wondered how you would make a modern TM game. I think by today’s standards, the formula of simply picking a car and battling through several stages wouldn’t provide the depth that most gamers expect from games these days. So obviously you need a large customization component and a larger multiplayer system. So in some ways a FTP model makes sense, although it still makes me cringe.
I remember playing Destruction Allstars and wished it was a new TM game. In a lot of ways it kind of felt like one, though DA was completely boring after one match—a game devoid of any real gameplay. So I don’t feel totally confident the team will deliver the way it needs to.
"New Twisted Metal game reportedly in development for PlayStation"
- FUCK YES
… then I read the subtitle
"Destruction AllStars studio said to be making new F2P Twisted Metal"
