Think about the implied belief here: you want the internet to ban whatever political speech you dislike.
"No I just want Substack to ban it" Why? Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, the rest are much more powerful vectors of hate, you just want to let that go? I don’t believe this.
"No I just want these certain ideas banned" Why? Don’t ableist idea directly impact people, including those dying to COVID at much higher rates? Classist ideas "directly impact" non-rich people, including those ODing by the thousands all the time in this country? It would a lie to say there are exactly two ideologies with enough "shittiness" to be kicked off the web.
So to be accurate, being against "them hosting" certain people means you think Substack and the rest of all internet corporations should consult a small section of the country to ban a large list of ideas. Whats the plan to go about this? How will you agree on the ideas and when to update them? Is BDS on this list? What about settler-colonial Zionism?
Your not-Noah-Berlatsky person has convinced me: Begging silicon valley CEOs to ban political speech will never go wrong. If we legitimize this power for content hosts and domain name companies, pro-Palestinian activism won’t be wiped off the internet within days. I see now that power doesn’t corrupt and nothing ever sets a precedent.
