I know this is a wild thing to ask of a media and culture website covering a film for the first time but… would a short synopsis or pitch have hurt to include? I read this and know more about time math now than I do about what the movie is supposedly about. I know that the story here is BIG NUMBERS and not the movie itself, but I had never heard of it before this and had to go leave the site to find basic info about the plot (it’s an action comedy about out-heisting a heist, as best I can tell).

"The new Saints Row’s cast is composed of an all-new, younger, and more diverse group of characters, for which Volition received some blowback from longtime players."
What? I thought most of the criticism was that the world and writing seemed bland and toned-down. The trailer made it seem like it’ll be an open-world crime-y thing sure, but not anarchic or particularly funny. Just altogether more smoothed out and generic. Those are core tonal features of the series that seem to still be missing (and they haven’t shown any gameplay to let other impressions develop).
That seems like a pretty different line of criticism than someone being an asshole online about young brown people getting featured front and center. If the assumed identities of the cast here actually was a big piece of fan blowback then I agree, it’s an absolutely shitty and pointless criticism to level at the game.
