Trying to figure out the best food combo in Valheim isn’t easy. In fact, there’s no definitive answer or a one-size-fits-all meal to recommend for every occasion. That’s because the best food combo to eat depends on what biome you’re in and what you’re doing there.

In this Valheim guide, we’ll show you the best food combo for each scenario, biome, and boss fight. We’ll show you the best recipes to use, what to eat, and what impact they’ll have on you.

The best food combo for the early game and meadows biome

In your first few hours of Valheim, you’re probably still figuring out how to cook and how to heal. Each piece of food you eat affects you differently. Since you can only gain the effects of three food items at once, it’s good to know the best food combos for each situation.

At the beginning of the game, you’ll likely be exploring the meadows biome. There are three readily available sources of food you can find in the meadows. Together these meals create the best food combo for the early game.

Cooked meat 40 30 2hp/tick 1,200 seconds (20 minutes)
Grilled neck tail 35 20 2hp/tick 1,000 seconds (16.6667 minutes)
Raspberries 10 20 1hp/tick 600 seconds (10 minutes)

You can make cooked meat from any raw meat you get from boar or deer. Grilled neck tail comes from the lizard-like neck creatures you’ll find near water. Raspberries are easy to find on bushes through the wooded areas of the meadows.

The best food combo for Eikthyr’s boss fight

Eikthyr is the first boss you encounter. Since their boss fight takes place in the meadows, most of the resources you’ll gather for this fight will come from the same biome.

As you work to summon and beat Eikthyr, the best food combo for Eikthyr’s boss fight is still cooked meat, grilled neck tail, and raspberries, all of which we covered above.

If you still find the boss fight challenging, check our guide on the opening hours of the game.

The best food combo for the Elder’s boss fight

After defeating Eikthyr, you’ll eventually travel to the black forest to summon and beat The Elder. Your diet won’t change much for this fight, but you will replace one food on the list which will require you to learn a new recipe.

Queens jam 30 40 2hp/tick 1,200 seconds (20 minutes)

The black forest gives you access to blueberries, which will help with your first recipe. If you have a cauldron, you can make queens jam by combining blueberries and raspberries.

The best food combo for the Bonemass boss fight

The third boss fight is one of the most challenging parts of Valheim. Our guide on summoning and defeating Bonemass will offer up plenty of tips to help you stay alive, but a strong meal should be one of your top priorities.

The only item that will stay on your menu during your time in the swamps will be cooked meat. For the Bonemass boss fight, you’ll want to add sausages and turnip stew to your recipe list.

Getting ready for the third boss fight is a lot of work, but due to its challenge, it’s worth it. Here is the best food combo for the Bonemass boss fight:

Turnip stew 50 50 2hp/tick 1,600 seconds (26.66667 minutes)

You can make sausages in a cauldron from any raw meat source, thistle which you’ll find in the swamp, and the entrails from draugr enemies who patrol this biome.

For turnip stew recipe, you’ll first need to find turnip seeds from their flowers in the swamp. Then you’ll have to learn to farm so you can cultivate the seed. Once you’ve grown turnips, combine them with raw meat in a cauldron.

The Moder fight in Valheim is a challenge against not only a flying boss, but a brutal environment. Our Moder boss fight guide has tips for the best gear to bring. It’s also one of the first times we recommend gathering resources in another biome.

To face off against this boss, add a bow and a cape to your inventory. Thankfully, your recipe plan for this fight won’t change too much. Here’s the best food combo for the Moder boss fight:

We still recommend sausages and turnip stew for this fight, but instead of your normal cooked meat, head to the plains biome to grab lox meat. Cooked lox meat adds an additional 30 health, 10 more points of stamina, an extra point of health per tick, and lasts six more minutes.
