Everything you need to know about Wolfenstein in 5 minutes

A brief history of the series, 1981 to 2017

Simone de Rochefort has been producing & hosting YouTube videos for Polygon since 2016. She co-directed the upcoming documentary The Great Game: The Making of Spycraft.

Before Wolfenstein: The New Order came out in 2014 we put together a video history of the Wolfenstein series, as told by our own Justin McElroy.

Well, there’s a new Wolfenstein on the way and it’s time for a refresh. Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is the ... 11th Wolfenstein game. Because that’s how numbers work.

The history of the series is pretty batty, so if you want to learn about mecha Hitlers and zombie Nazis and alternate history, watch this video to get caught up. Justin will have you ready for a weekend of double-wielding machine guns in no time.

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus comes out on Oct. 27. You can read our review here.

You can also watch a fantastic breakdown of one of the coolest scenes in the game, provided by creative director Jens Matthies and composer Mick Gordon, below:

As always, find coverage of the rest of this year’s absolute cornucopia of great games on our YouTube channel.
