Bridge Constructor Portal comes complete with more GLaDOS

A highly effective new mechanism for humor delivery

Charlie Hall is Polygon’s tabletop editor. In 10-plus years as a journalist & photographer, he has covered simulation, strategy, and spacefaring games, as well as public policy.

Bridge Constructor, the smash hit multiplatform physics game, has a new guest star. In Bridge Constructor Portal, the malevolent artificial intelligence is back on Android, iOS, Mac and Windows on Dec. 20, and it runs like a dream.

The best part, however, is that GLaDOS hangs out for the whole trip, egging you on in all her smarmy glory with new, fully voiced dialogue.

I spent a few hours with the game in advance of its launch and I was pretty impressed. The thing with the original Bridge Constructor was that it always felt confined to the screen. There was only so much real estate to go around. You move the cars from the left side to the right, and you move on. With the Portal version of the game, however, all bets are off.

In this version, there’s not just one colored pair of portals. There are multiple pairs of portals on the map at the same time, meaning that your first challenge is often just trying to figure out which one to go through to get from A to point B. For fans of the original series of Bridge Constructor games it’s a no-brainer, but it’s an extra treat for fans of the Portal games in particular. Check it out in our video above.

Portal Bridge Constructor is also expected for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018.
