Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is all about the prepwork

New powers, new possibilities

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, a stand-alone expansion to Arkane’s whalepunk stealth series, wasn’t really on my radar until I had a chance to play it at QuakeCon 2017 last week. The expansion’s exploration of Billie Lurk’s unique suite of powers offers some really fascinating twists on the franchise’s formula, focusing much more on scouting and preparation before moving into a room rather than improvising as you go.

The result is a set of abilities that seem like they’re going to perfectly align with how I like to play the game: very, very cautiously. Although the video preview above, in which I walk Russ Frushtick through the demo I played, is not especially indicative of that playstyle. Things get loud and chaotic real fast.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider launches Sept. 15 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. Players won’t need to own either of the preceding Dishonored titles to pick it up.
