Tonight on Video Game Theatre, a much-requested scene from Metal Gear Solid. Is it risky to take on such a beloved, even legendary scene?
Of course. But this is the theatre, and what is theatre without risks? Nothing. Actors Pat Gill and Simone de Rochefort dug deep into the source material, reminding us why we loved the original performances, while adding still more layers of nuance and understanding to this beautiful scene.
Patrick Gill here makes his debut as Hal “Otacon” Emmerich, a role which he will reprise later this year in Metal Gear Solid: The Musical, directed by David Lynch. De Rochefort, a stage veteran (and no relation to myself, Simone de Rochefort), had actually played Solid “Dave” Snake in a high school play.
“It’s weird to revisit it,” she said with a laugh. “But I think I have a lot more to bring the role now that I’m an adult, and I’ve experienced love and loss just like Snake has.”
