Celeste is the first masocore game I’ve ever played to the very end of the story — and continued to play after the story was finished to complete the bonus levels. And then replayed again only a few months after I beat it the first time.
There’s so much to talk about when it comes to Celeste, but beyond the incredible soundtrack and beautiful storyline, one of the coolest things about the game is how similar it is to actually climbing a mountain.
As someone who grew up rock climbing, I immediately recognized parallels between the level design and the way you climb a route on a rock wall. The progression of knowledge and skill comes naturally in Celeste, an incredibly difficult game, which is a major reason I played through and continue to play the game to this day.
