The Shadow of the Colossus remake is an exceptional standout in a market flooded with remasters, reboots and re-releases. Over a decade after its initial release, each boss fight still feels grand and tense, thanks in no small part to the beautification of the world by developer Bluepoint Games. I wasn’t sure which boss fight to share with you, each is interesting in its own way, so I decided to go with arguably the biggest beast: the 13th colossus, a spectacular flying sand serpent.

What’s your favorite boss fight from Shadow of the Colossus? When I first played the game in 2005, the pair of flying beasts put me off, but this time I was smitten by them. I wonder if the small tweaks to the controls in the remake have made these battles more enjoyable. Or perhaps my taste has just changed over the years. That’s part of the pleasure of returning to a game later in life, seeing how it lands in the shadow of the experiences that filled the time in between.
