Watch 7 minutes of Rage 2 gameplay

Enjoy some colorful slaughter direct from QuakeCon 2018

At QuakeCon earlier this month, we got to play a brief demo of Rage 2, the surprise sequel to id Software’s 2010 first-person shooter. Rage 2 is in the hands of Just Cause and Mad Max developer Avalanche Studios, who are delivering an action-heavy shooter that trades the original Rage’s earth tones for a cotton candy-colored post-apocalypse filled with super powers.

In the gameplay footage above, you’ll get a taste for Rage 2’s over-the-top violence, thanks to the game’s decapitating boomerang, the Wingstick, and Walker’s special abilities, like Shatter and Slam, that turn wasteland survivors into red mist on contact. Chaining kills and destruction using Walker’s abilities builds up the Overdrive meter, which makes him (and his guns) faster and more powerful.

Rage 2’s action sits somewhere between id and publisher Bethesda Softworks’ other shooter franchises, Wolfenstein and Doom, if you’re looking for something with heavy impact gunplay and a bit of speed.

Avalanche and id are aiming for a spring 2019 release for Rage 2 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
