A 15-second play can make or break an Overwatch League match

Let’s slow down to appreciate the support

As a casual Overwatch player, Overwatch League play moves faster than my humble brain can take. That’s not a bad thing — I can go into a nice trance watching the pros’ fast-flowing high-level play.

But sometimes I see moments, like this absolutely ridiculous Bastion jumping onto a chandelier, and I just want to take a breath and appreciate what the hell just happened there. That goes double with plays from support characters like Mercy and Ana, who spend so much time trying to avoid calling attention to themselves.

I sat down with three casters from the Overwatch League: Robert Kirkbride, Seth King, and Matt Morello. Together they untangled a stellar support moment from last summer’s Overwatch League play-offs. It’s a very sneaky resurrection from CoMa who, at that time, played for the Shanghai Dragons, which resulted in a Pharah ultimate that clinched the match for the Dragons. Check out the video to find out what went right and what went wrong with this play, and just how many factors go into any single decision in pro-level Overwatch.
