Just show up in the right spot, at the right time

Today’s update for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild introduces a new side quest based on Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Here’s how to find the Salvager Headwear, Salvager Vest and Salvager Trousers.

What follows includes mild spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.

After you download the free update and immediately upon starting the game you’ll receive a notification that a new quest has been added to your adventure log. You’ll find it under the side quests header. It’s called [Xenoblade Chronicles 2], and includes this riddle.

The southern sky from the middle of the largest bridge. The eastern sky from the skull’s left eye. The southeastern sky from the peak of the tall, pierced snowy mountain.

These are references to locations on the map:

  • The first refers to the Bridge of Hylia in the middle of Lake Hylia.
  • The second refers to an island inside Skull Lake — the one with Zuna Kai shrine.
  • The third refers to the top of Hebra Peak, which is within the Hebra region in the northwest.

Check out our galleries below for the exact locations.

Once you’ve reached each location, wait until sometime after 9 p.m. (or light a fire and wait until night) and look to the sky in the appointed direction. If all goes well, a shooting star with a pink trail will fall out of the sky and land in a cloud of dust. Sidle on over and claim your gear.

Breath of the Wild’s Xenoblade 2 armor locations

Like the towers and shrines scattered throughout the game world, reaching these locations is all about exploration. They’re also gated, in a way, based in part on player skill but also the number of hearts you have. In order to get very far north in the game, you need to be able to at least outrun a Guardian.

For those who have made their rounds on the map, the journey is made much easier by having access to remote shrines.

The southern sky from the middle of the largest bridge

For the Bridge of Hylia, the closest shrines include Ya Naga and Pumaag Nitae. Alternately, you could just hop up into the Lake Tower and sail on over.

The eastern sky from the skull’s left eye

For Skull Lake, the easiest fast travel location is Zuna Kai shrine. Otherwise, you’ll have to plod north from Tutsuwa Nima, or east from Gorae Torr.

You’ll need to stand on what, to us, sure looks like the right eye. But presumably, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild wants you to think of left and right as if you were the skeleton.

The southeastern sky from the peak of the tall, pierced snowy mountain

Finally, to reach Hebra Peak you should have already climbed up to reach Goma Asaagh shrine. Otherwise, be sure to unlock it while you’re there. It’s a bit of a hike.

You can find the location of all the shrines in our extensive guide.

Once you’ve recovered all of the items — Salvager Headwear, Salvager Vest and Salvager Trousers — you’ll get a boost to your swimming speed when you wear all three. So far, we’ve not found a way to upgrade the armor.
