Zelda Breath of the Wild Champions’ Ballad DLC guide: EX Treasure Usurper King side quest (Zant’s Helmet)

How to find Zant’s Helmet

Jeffrey Parkin (he/him) has been writing video game guides for Polygon for almost seven years. He has learned to love just about every genre of game that exists.

The Champions’ Ballad downloadable content for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild adds several new outfits and pieces of armor for Link. One of these is Zant’s Helmet (from Twilight Princess), which makes you unfreezable. This doesn’t help with cold environments, but it does mean you can ignore any enemy attack that would normally freeze you in place — an ability you would normally have to completely upgrade the Snowquill set to achieve.

This guide will walk you through both steps of the EX Treasure Usurper King side quest, from finding the book of rumors to the locations of the helmet.

EX Treasure: Usurper King

Finding the book of rumors for Zant’s Helmet requires you to travel to a pretty out-of-the-way and difficult-to-reach location. The first few images in the gallery above show the actual location of the book. There is no direct way to get there, so you’ve got a lot of options for getting close:

  • Warp to Bosh Kala shrine, then cross the river and continue southeast.
  • Warp to either Shee Venath or Shee Vaneer shrine and paraglide (a long way) down to the west (and then run the rest of the way).
  • Warp to Dueling Peaks Tower and paraglide west-southwest (you’ll have to run the rest of the way).

You’re looking for a square island near the eastern shore, just north of the arm of Deya Lake that sticks off to the east (just look at the image above for much clearer directions). The book is under some wreckage in the northwest corner.

You’ll get information on several pieces of armor and armor sets when you read the book. The clue for this side quest reads, “… in the swamp of the valley of dead trees, south of Dueling Peaks.”

How to find Zant’s Helmet

Warp to Shee Veneer shrine. Don’t worry about dressing warm — you won’t be here long. Jump off the mountaintop and paraglide (mostly) straight south. You’re heading for an area called Tobio’s Hollow. There’s a swamp (the kind filled with quicksand) on the northern end of the valley. Try to land on the narrow island with two (dead) trees on the right (the west) side.

The EX chest is covered in moss, so it’s really hard to spot. Use Magnesis to make it easier to find — it’s about halfway between the two trees.

The next level of puzzles.
