Link’s Awakening guide: How to carry more bombs

Find the Li’l Devil again, and get cursed with more bombs

Jeffrey Parkin (he/him) has been writing video game guides for Polygon for almost seven years. He has learned to love just about every genre of game that exists.

The new Flippers you picked up in Link’s Awakening Angler’s Tunnel will open up all the water areas you couldn’t explore before. One of the first things you should do with this new mode of transportation is to expand your bomb inventory. Our guide will show you how.

Find Li’l Devil again

You’re looking for Li’l Devil again — the same one(?) that expanded your Magic Powder pouch earlier.

Starting from Animal Village, head up and to the left. Continue northwest, past the vertical row of trees, to the water. There will be stairs leading down.

Hop into the water and swim southwest (down and to the left), past the entrance to Catfish Maw (the next dungeon). When you reach the left side of the water, there will be stairs leading up.

Climb out of the water and head down until you reach the Telephone Booth.

Activate the Martha’s Bay warp pad

This step is optional, but it’ll help you later. Turn left at the Telephone Booth and follow the narrow path into the woods. You’ll see a small blue sigil on the ground. Stand on it to activate the Martha’s Bay warp pad.

Head back to the right to the Telephone Booth.

Jump across the holes

Continue to the right from the Telephone Booth as far as you can go.

You’ll see some stairs surrounded by bushes and a series of holes in the way.

Using the Roc’s Feather and the Pegasus Boots together (dash and jump) will let you jump three holes — you’ll land on the fourth space from where you jump. But there are bushes here that will block you.

Line up on a promising row of holes (we prefer the ones with only two holes because it’s safer) and long jump across. Just as you bump into the bush, slash with your sword. You’re probably going to fall into the hole and sacrifice a little health. But it’s not much and you’ll be clearing a landing spot for yourself.

Line up and jump again to the spot you just cleared. Slash through the rest of the bushes.

Go through the flooded tunnel

Head up and to the left along the flooded hallway. Dodge the Piranhas. Watch for a Heart Piece under the water and dive with the B button to collect it.

Continue up the stairs at the other end.

Continue left through the grassy path. Watch out for the Buzz Blob as you go. Head down the stairs to the left.

Meet Li’l Devil

Use Magic Powder on the brazier in the middle of the room to meet another (the same?) Li’l Devil. This time he’ll curse you with carrying more bombs.
