There are 50 Secret Seashells hidden across Koholint Island in Link’s Awakening. Below, you’ll find maps and screenshots for the location of every Secret Seashell. We’ll show you where to cash them in and what you’ll get for them.

Mabe Village Secret Seashells

There are eight Secret Seashells in Mabe Village. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. You’ll get two Secret Seashells from the fishing minigame. One when you catch your first Blooper, and another when you catch your first Cheep Cheep.
  2. Use your shovel to dig in the southeast corner of CiaoCiao’s doghouse.
  3. Pull up the plants between the shop and the Trendy Game. This seashell is under the plant four columns from left, and second row down.
  4. Two seashells appear in the Trendy Game. You’ll have to make a lot of progress through the game before the second one shows up.
  5. With your Pegasus Boots, dash into the tree standing alone just to the west of the Tail Cave entrance.
  6. There is a bombable wall inside Tail Cave — we mentioned it in our Tail Cave walkthrough. The seashell is inside the chest behind that wall.

Toronbo Shores Secret Seashells

There are two Secret Seashells in Toronbo Shores. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. Once you have the Pegasus Boots, dash at the tree above to knock loose this shell.
  2. Near the log where you sat with Marin while finding the Slime Key, this shell is in the southwestern corner of the cove. Use your shovel to dig it up.

Mysterious Forest Secret Seashells

There are three Secret Seashells in the Mysterious Forest. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. In the northwest corner of the Mysterious Forest, just south of Mr. Write’s house, dig along the west side of the path.
  2. Look for the plus sign of blue flowers near where you picked up your first toadstool. Dig in the center.
  3. After you pick up the Power Bracelet, you can lift the boulder along the southern border of the Mysterious Forest to reach this chest with a seashell inside.

Koholint Prairie Secret Seashells

  1. In the low area just south of the Witch’s house — you’ll pass through here while returning the ghost to his house — remove the plant in the middle of the grassy area. Dig where the plant was to find this seashell.

Pothole Field Secret Seashells

There are seven Secret Seashells in Pothole Field. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. Just east of the Telephone Booth between Mabe Village and the Key Cavern entrance, dash at the tree to knock loose this shell.
  2. Climb on top of the Key Cavern entrance. This shell is in the northwest corner.
  3. Long jump or, once you have your Flippers, swim to the northernmost island in the lake east of Key Cavern. This shell is under the plant.
  4. After you blow up the stone skull to open a shortcut back to Koholint Prairie, dig where the skull was for this shell.
  5. After you return to Richard with the five Golden Leaves, you’ll get access to the tunnel beneath his house. Take the first branch on the left to find this chest and shell.
  6. To the east of Pothole Field, there is a stone maze filled with Pig Moblins. To get south to Martha’s Bay, you’ll pass through a tunnel. Look for a bombable wall inside to get to the roof. This shell is buried just southwest of the Owl Statue.
  7. Lift the only boulder in the Pig Moblin maze to the east of Pothole Field. This shell is underneath.

Kanalet Castle Secret Seashells

There are three Secret Seashells around (but not inside of) Kanalet Castle, but you won’t be able to get all them on your first visit. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. Once you have the Flippers, jump into the Kanalet Castle moat. Head into the northwest corner and dive under the waterfall there.
  2. On the southern edge of the Kanalet Castle moat, Hookshot across to the west to find a small room with a chest containing the other shell.
  3. Just to the east of Seashell Mansion (on the same plateau as the mansion), pluck the plants to find a seashell.

Animal Village and Yarna Desert Secret Seashells

There are five Secret Seashells in Animal Village and Yarna Desert. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. After you deliver the Goat’s Letter to Mr. Write, return to Christine for a Secret Seashell reward.
  2. Once you have the Magnifying Glass, head to the northeastern house in Animal Village (without the Magnifying Glass, this house seems empty). Talk to the Zora there to get a shell.
  3. In the northeastern part of the Yarna Desert, look for a U-shaped block of cactuses/cacti (don’t @ me). Dig in the center for this shell.
  4. After you’ve moved the walrus to get into Yarna Desert, return to where the walrus was and look to the south over the edge. Play the Ballad of the Wind Fish on your Ocarina, and the walrus will reappear and throw a shell to you.
  5. On the eastern edge of the Yarna Desert, look for a narrow path that leads south.

Martha’s Bay Secret Seashells

There are four Secret Seashells in Martha’s Bay. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. You’ll find this shell under a pot on the right side of the Ghost’s house.
  2. Just south of the Telephone Booth, go down the stairs and pull up the plant.
  3. East of the Telephone Booth, look for this plant in the northeast corner of the area. (You’ll pass here on your way to meet Li’l Devil and get cursed with more bombs.)
  4. Once you have the Hookshot, you’ll be able to reach this Owl Statue. Dig just to the left of it.

Tabahl Wasteland Secret Seashells

There are three Secret Seashells in (and around) Tabahl Wasteland. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. This shell is under a rock in the northeast of this area. You’ll pass through here a lot on your way into the northern parts of the map.
  2. You’ll get this shell as a reward for completing Dampe’s fourth challenge, Fill Up Your Hearts.
  3. This shell is buried along the east side of the area with all the crows and creepy trees.

Goponga Swamp Secret Seashells

There is one Secret Seashell in Goponga Swamp. The number on the map above corresponds to the image and list below.

  1. West of the Goponga Swamp and north of Mr. Write’s house, this shell is buried under a plant just to the right of the ladder. You’ll have to pull the plant, and then dig to retrieve it.

Tal Tal Heights Secret Seashells

  1. Just to the east of the Tal Tal Heights warp pad, there’s a hole in the ground. Toss a bomb into the hole to blow a shell out.

Ancient Ruins Secret Seashells

There are two Secret Seashells in (and around) Ancient Ruins. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. In the northeast corner of the maze above the Ancient Ruins, there is a boulder in the very corner. Lift it for the shell.
  2. One of the Armos in the Ancient Ruins is standing on top of some stairs. Take it out to find the stairs, and open the chest downstairs for this shell.

Tal Tal Mountain Range Secret Seashells

There are five Secret Seashells in Tal Tal Mountain Range. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. To the west of the shack at the top of the Tal Tal Mountain Range, there’s another hole in the ground. Stand on the first section of the broken bridge leading west, and toss a bomb to the south. It will blow your shell up to you.
  2. Just to the east of the shack, this shell is under a rock.
  3. Inside Eagle Tower, you’ll have a chance to pick up this shell after you defeat the Red Hinox.
  4. Along the southern edge of the mountains, watch for the three waterfalls. Dive under the water at the base of the waterfall above those to find this shell.
  5. To the east of the three waterfalls, head inside and through the tunnel. You’ll find this shell in a chest at the other end.

Mt. Tamaranch Secret Seashells

There are two Secret Seashells in Mt. Tamaranch (well, to the west of Mt. Tamaranch, but the area’s not named — it’s near Turtle Rock). The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. To the east of Turtle Rock (and to the east of the Telephone Booth), look for a cross of rocks on the ground. Dig in the center for this shell.
  2. On your way over to Turtle Rock, there’s an area where you’ll have to dodge boulders falling at you. At the top of the mountains there, this shell is under a rock in the northeast corner.

Rapids Ride Secret Seashells

There are three Secret Seashells in Rapids Ride. The numbers on the map above correspond to the gallery and list below.

  1. The first shell is up a set of stairs inside of Face Shrine. You can see the details in our Face Shrine walkthrough.
  2. Sign up for the Rapids Raid version of the River Rapids. Use your Hookshot to navigate to the seemingly empty island roughly in the middle — the water will move you past this area, so you just have to Hookshot your way north. Dig in the northeast corner for this shell.
  3. Use your Hookshot to get through the Rapids Race version of the River Rapids as fast as you can. Finish in under 35 seconds, and you’ll get a Secret Seashell as a reward.

Secret Seashell rewards

You can earn rewards after collecting Secret Seashells and visiting the Seashell Mansion. Collect 40 of them, for example, and you’ll get you Koholint Sword. It’s Link’s Awakening’s best sword. It deals twice the damage of your starting sword and fires a beam when Link has full health.
