Find Kukiel and Gratitude Crystals walkthrough – Zelda: Skyward Sword HD guide

Finding Kukiel is a The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword side quest that you’ll start automatically on Skyloft after finishing up in Skyview Temple.

In this Skyward Sword HD Faron Woods walkthrough, we’ll guide you through this side quest. We’ll help you complete every step of Finding Kukiel and meeting Batreaux. This side quest also introduces you to Gratitude Crystals, and we’ll help your find your first 10 to earn a Medium Wallet and a Piece of Heart. After that, we’ll do a little shopping to prepare for our trip to Eldin Volcano.

Find Kukiel

When you head outside after placing the Ruby Tablet in the Statue of the Goddess on Skyloft, you’ll run into Wyrna. Her daughter, Kukiel, has gone missing.

Head to the southeast corner of Skyloft.

You’ll meet Orielle there, and she’ll point you to an old man who hangs out at the Lumpy Pumpkin.

Fly over to Pumpkin Landing. As you land, aim for the roof. Right over the main entrance, you’ll find a Goddess Chest — we hit the Goddess Cube for this one in Skyview Spring — with a Gold Rupee (worth 300 rupees).

Inside, speak with Rusta, and he’ll tell you about the Skyloft monster he saw. The important things he says are that it hit the gravestone nearest the tree in the graveyard, and then it pushed the gravestone.

Head back to Skyloft. Find a bed — literally any bed, it doesn’t have to be yours — and sleep until night. Head to the graveyard in the southeast of Skyloft.

Swing your sword at the gravestone in the corner closest to the tree. When it lights up, push (or pull) it to open the door nearby.

Drop down the ladder inside, and follow the walkway to Batreaux’s house.

Inside, speak to Batreaux and Kukiel. You’ll learn about Gratitude Crystals and Batreaux promises rewards for collecting them.

Climb back up to the surface and head to Jakamar and Wyrna’s House. It’s near the water east of the Bazaar. Speak with Wyrna to let her know Kukiel is safe.

Sleep in their bed until morning and speak to Wyrna again to receive your first 5 Gratitude Crystals.

Gather 10 more Gratitude Crystals

This next step is optional, but we’ll get a Piece of Heart and a Medium Wallet for the trouble.

Sleep in Jakamar and Wyrna’s bed until night. There are 10 Gratitude Crystals scattered around Skyloft, but you can only collect them at night.

Head to the pumpkin patch on the east side of Skyloft. This Gratitude Crystal is behind the tree.

In the Plaza, climb the ladder onto the tower. Loop around to the back side to find this Gratitude Crystal.

On the west side of Skyloft, near where you met Gully earlier, look for a ledge to drop off. You’ll find this Gratitude Crystal on a ledge there. Climb the vines to get back up top.

Right across from where you climb back up from Gratitude Crystal 3, go into Parrow and Orielle’s house. This Gratitude Crystal is to the right of the door.

From Parrow and Orielle’s house, start toward the Knight Academy. Before you go up the stairs, take a right onto the wooden walkway. At the other end, you’ll find this Gratitude Crystal.

Climb up to the second floor entrance of the Knight Academy. Just inside the door, turn left for this Gratitude Crystal.

Head down to Link’s room on the first floor of the Knight Academy. This Gratitude Crystal is over on his desk.

Inside the Sparring Hall, use your new Beetle to get this Gratitude Crystal from the rafters.

Head back to the east side of Skyloft, and go through the Waterfall Cave. When you exit, this Gratitude Crystal is on your left.

Follow the path below the Waterfall Cave to the small cave where Groose had trapped your Loftwing. You’ll find this Gratitude Crystal inside.

Return to Batreaux

Head back down to Batreaux. When you speak with him, he’ll reward you with a Medium Wallet and a Piece of Heart.

Buy an Iron Shield

Find somewhere to sleep until morning, and then head to the Bazaar. Pick up the Iron Shield from the Gear Shop for 100 rupees.

If you’ve got extra cash, grab the Small Seed Satchel for 100 rupees as well. Outside, ring the bell for Beedle’s Airshop. He’s got an even bigger Extra Wallet for 100 rupees and another Adventure Pouch for 300 rupees.

Now it’s time to head for Eldin Volcano.
