Pyroclastic Fiend Scaldera boss fight guide — Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

The second boss fight in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is against a large lava creature called the Pyroclastic Fiend Scaldera. This creature is summoned by the antagonist Demon Lord Ghirahim and is the last thing you need to take care of before you leave the Earth Temple.

Phase 1

Throughout the fight, you must run up and down a large ramp as you face off against the Scaldera. Along the side of the ramp are several Bomb Flowers as well as a patch of them at the top of the ramp. You can also find a few hearts up there to restore your health.

As the boss chases you up the ramp, grab a Bomb Flower from the platform or from inside your bag to toss or roll at the boss. When the creature is hit by a bomb, it rolls down the ramp. Chase after it.

Once the boss stops rolling, it opens its mouth and begins inhaling. When it’s done, it shoots a pattern of large fireballs up the ramp you need to dodge. If you toss or roll a bomb into its mouth while it’s inhaling, the bomb explodes inside of it, which knocks off pieces of its rocky armor.

With bits of its armor removed, the boss’s eye becomes exposed. Quickly take as many stabs or slashes at it as you can. After a few hits, the boss resumes chasing up the ramp.

Continue hitting the boss with bombs, waiting for it to inhale, get it to suck up a bomb, and slash at its eye.

Phase 2

When you remove all of Scaldera’s armor, the boss begins a second phase. Without its rocky exterior, it moves much faster.

Let the creature chase you all the way up the ramp, where it then rolls back down. From there, you can continue the fight as you did before. Just keep throwing and rolling bombs into its mouth when it inhales. If you don’t get a chance to get a bomb in its mouth, dodge its fireballs until you can.
